Woodland Park Zoo’s Jungle Party auction donation

I was pleased to donate a painting to this year’s Jungle Party fundraising auction at the Woodland Park Zoo here in Seattle. The 37^th Annual Jungle Party at the Woodland Park Zoo’s themed Journey to the Savanna in the North Meadow of the grounds included a reception and silent auction, followed by dinner and live auction on Friday, July 12^th. More activities included exclusive animal tours, up-close animal encounters, live entertainment, and more.

I donated the painting A Splendid Window and the painting did a splendid job indeed, selling above the listed value. It was super exciting to keep tabs on the piece via the silent auction smart phone app the zoo implemented and it was nice to be included in such great company. A lot of great art in this year’s auction.

The event will support the Woodland Park Zoo’s excellence in animal care, as well as local and global conservation and education programs.

Schack Art Center – Art of the Garden Opening

More than forty 2- and 3-dimensional regional artists are exhibiting in Everett’s Schack Art Center Art of the Garden. Last night’s opening was a lovely event with a good turnout and lots of lively conversation at the beautiful gallery in downtown Everett, WA. I’ve got four pieces in the show which runs through August 1st. Check out more on Facebook

Salmon Paintings Just Completed

A new series of salmon paintings are complete. I had a lovely king salmon from which to print. Here’s an idea of the process. You can see the completed paintings in the Fish Gotta Swim gallery.

: 1. Sand, prime, paint background.

: 2. Background is blended.

: 3. The fish shapes are blocked in.

: 4. King makes his entrance.

: 5. The fish is printed in black and then white.

: 6. Printing complete.

: 7. Color, details added.

: 8. Detail of printing.

: 9. Painted size (glue) is tacky after an hour, lay down silver leaf.

: 10. Holes are drilled, nuts and bolts added.

: 11. The finished painting.

2nd Place / Special Merit Award – Light, Space & Time Competition

I’m pleased to announce that I placed 2nd in the Light, Space & Time online gallery competition, as well as receiving a Special Merit award for a separate piece. The exhibition, entitled Seascapes received 629 entries from 22 different countries around the world. You’ll find some excellent work in the competition and I urge you to take a look.

New Umbrellas Opening

Photo shoot for the new Rainy Ladies series in Volunteer Park, Seattle.

One Day in the Park…

I had a very good time going to the park recently to shoot pictures of my friend Flamenco dancer Savannah Fuentes for the Rainy Ladies series. She kindly agreed to hold a red umbrella and prance up and down stairs while I snapped away. The new paintings have a nice depth and emotion. Savannah is a wonderful dancer and produces her own tours. Take my advice and don’t miss a chance to see one of her shows. – Deb.
